The Friends of Grove Gardens
(F.O.G.G.) was the first ‘friends of the park’ group to be established in the Doncaster area. For the past 5 years its members have worked to improve the condition of and facilities within the park. These efforts have received recognition from all and achievement awards from the Local Authority.
The group has renovated the park pavilion and now rents it from the Local Authority. The use of the pavilion is seen as key to developing the park and several local groups hire it from
F.O.G.G. as a venue for meeting and events, the most successful being the Cheeky Monkeys parents and toddlers group. (see details on how to join)
Anyone interested in hiring the pavilion for meetings, clubs, and children’s parties (incl. the use of bouncy castles) they can do so at a modest cost. (see details)
In the past the group has relied on fund raising events to sponsor its efforts but then successfully applied for charitable status and more recently has accessed other sources of funding.
In partnership with DMBC,
F.O.G.G. undertook a comprehensive consultation exercise and feasibility study, which has resulted in a comprehensive plan foe the development of the park. This plan is on display in the pavilion.
Aside from cosmetic improvements to the park (tennis courts, basket ball net, picnic tables etc.)
F.O.G.G. has been heavily involved in promoting activity days in the park for younger people including tennis and football coaching.
